Stories from Lake Como
Moregallo: the cliffs that plunge into the lake
Moregallo reaches 1,276 meters in the Larian Triangle. Its eastern slope plunges towards the Lecco branch with spectacular rock faces and gullies.
The mountain on the water
Between Valmadrera and Mandello del Lario, the profile of Moregallo creates one of the clearest landscapes of the lake. The rock descends almost vertically, leaving little space for the shore: observed from the water, the mountain seems to emerge directly from the Lario.
On the eastern ridge is the Sasso di Preguda, a large erratic granite boulder transported by ancient glaciers from Val Masino. Next to it stands the small church of San Isidoro.
Between excursions and navigation
Several trails ascend from Valmadrera, but these are routes with significant elevation gain and steep sections: they require preparation, suitable footwear, and attention to weather conditions.
The perspective from the boat is different and immediate. Coasting the base of the walls, one perceives the scale of the mountain, the color of the rock, and the depth of the water.
