Lecco: what to see between Manzoni and the lake
Lecco opens where the eastern branch of Lake Como returns to being the Adda river. Its landscape is inseparable from the Promessi Sposi and the mountains described by Alessandro Manzoni.
Manzoni's places
Villa Manzoni was the writer's family home from 1615 to 1818; Alessandro spent part of his childhood and youth there. Today it houses the Museo Manzoniano.
Pescarenico is the only district of Lecco explicitly mentioned in the Promessi Sposi. Fra Cristoforo's convent and the fishermen's houses preserve the atmosphere of the story. Other places, such as Lucia's presumed house or Don Abbondio's church, are traditional identifications linked to a work of fiction.
The center and the lakefront
Piazza XX Settembre, the Palazzo delle Paure, and the bell tower of San Nicolò are central stops. The walk along the water offers views of Monte San Martino and Resegone.
From the lake, the city shows the relationship that guided its history: ports and productive activities on the shore, routes to Milan and Valtellina, mountains closing the horizon.
