Windsurfing and kitesurfing in Alto Lago

Domaso, Colico, and Dervio are among the most popular areas of Lake Como for windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, and sailing.

The winds of Lario

The Breva is the thermal wind that blows up the lake from the south during the central and afternoon hours. In Alto Lario, it often becomes more constant and intense. The Tivano, on the other hand, blows from the north or northeast, especially in the morning.

Intensity and direction depend on the season, atmospheric pressure, and morphology. Other winds, such as the Ventone, can be sudden and not suitable for beginners.

Spots and safety

Colico is known for the Pratone; Domaso and Dervio host schools and launch areas. The most regular thermal season is roughly from spring to late summer.

Each discipline requires equipment, skill, and knowledge of local rules. Beginners should rely on a recognized school; boat traffic, distances from the shore, and reserved areas must always be respected.
